Curriculum - Early Years & Foundation

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

At Hinde House Primary Phase the Foundation Stage consists of Foundation 1 (Nursery) and Foundation 2 (Reception).

Foundation 1

FS1 provides 52 part-time places for children for five sessions a week, mornings or afternoons (i.e. 15 hours per week of free early learning). Children are eligible for FS1 in the year prior to their entry to school. This is the September following their third birthday. A Foundation Stage Teacher and HLTA work with the children.

Parents/carers should register an interest for FS1 place for their child by contacting the School Office.

Foundation 2

There are two classes in FS2 each of 30 children. Each class has a full-time teacher and a Teaching Assistant. The two classes are based together in one FS2 unit which has indoor and outdoor learning areas.

Please note that children who attend FS1 are not guaranteed a place in FS2 classes at Hinde House as admission arrangements for Primary aged children are determined by Sheffield Local Authority.

The Foundation Stage Curriculum

There are seven areas of learning and development; all are important and inter-connected. Three areas are vital for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. These three areas, the prime areas, are:

    1. Communication and language.
    2. Physical development.
    3. Personal, social and emotional development.

We also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. The specific areas are:

    1. Literacy.
    2. Mathematics.
    3. Understanding the world.
    4. Expressive arts and design.

All seven areas are enabled throughout Foundation Stage indoors and outdoors.

"First Steps" - 2 Year old provision

In February 2015 we opened 2 year old provision in a newly refurbished building adjacent to the school site. Sixteen morning and sixteen afternoon places are offered for 15 hours per week.
